W Connection Wanderers History

The crucial moments in W Connection Wanderers history were three (3) years ago when the team, then known as the  Caroni Wanderers, who played at the highest level of  the National League Cricket Division One since inception, was demoted to National League Cricket Division Two.  This demotion signified that the team was faced with a major problem.

The demise of Caroni (1975) Limited, who owned the Wanderers, compounded the existing issue.  The future of the team was in question.  This grasped the attention of W Connection’s Managing Director - Mr. David John-Williams who collaborated with a former member of the Wanderers, Mr. Narine Bidhesie.  W Connection, together with Mr. Bidhesie undertook to regroup, recruit and organise the players.  In additions, they controlled the operations of the grounds and the maintenance of the other related facilities.

To raise the standard of professionalism, contract and incentives were offered.  The teams were coached by Mr. Gus Logie and Mr. Narine Bidhesie himself.  The physical trainer was Mr. Garcia, the Trinidad and Tobago National Cricket Trainer.

Under W Connection’s new management vast and notable improvements occurred in infrastructure that ranged from ground maintenance for games to club facilities.  These developments boosted the morale and standard of the team which was evident from their victory in the National League Division Two and their promotion back to the National League Cricket Division One.  The successive achievements within the past two (2) years include the following: -

2004

-     Champions of the Carib  Thirty (30) Over Shield

    -      Noel Guillien Under Twenty One (21) Champions

    -      Reserve League – Champions

    -      Carib Sunday League – Losing Semi Finalist

    -      Fruta Cup – Second Place

    -      Theodore Modeste – National Team Member

    2005

    -  National League – Second Place

    - Carib Over Shield – Second Place

    -  Carib Sunday League – Second Place

    -  Under Twenty One (21) - Losing Semi Finalist

    -  Fruta Cup – Joint Winners

    -  Sanjeer Goojar – National Team

    -  Williams Perkins – West Indies Under Nineteen (19) World Cup Team

    S ri Lanka

    -  Runako Morton – West Indies Team to New Zealand

    - Narine Bidhesie – Under Nineteen (19) National Selector

W Connection Wanderers has and continues to contribute to the development of cricket by making its facilities and equipment available to the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board.  These achievements by any standard must be considered tremendous and is a promising future of W Connection Wanderers members, supporters and well wishers internationally and Trinidad and Tobago .
